Tennessee Valley Bicycles

Architecture

Tennessee Valley Bicycles’ design began as an update to a blighted urban building with street access on two levels, and turned into a major renovation when we discovered a failing concrete beam. We took that opportunity to open a second entrance off the back and create a two-story glass and steel façade looking south to downtown Knoxville.

The design reimagines a failing brick masonry façade on the main entrance, which opens onto a bike shop. The steel structure off the back shades the glass facade from southern and western sun, and the downstairs entrance for bike rentals and repairs opens the alley to pedestrian traffic.
